Jamaica lead 2-0, lose 2-3
TRINIDAD notched their first victory in the Central-North American and Caribbean football tournament here today by defeating lowly placed Jamaica 3-2 in the first of two matches on today's programme. It was the third defeat in three matches for the Jamaicans who were tied 2-2 at half time after taking an early two-goal lead.Playing on a slippery pitch under a steady drizzle in the first half, full back Delroy Scott opened the score for the Jamaicans with a powerful 30-metre shot in the 20th minute. The Jamaicans appeared to dominate the game when winger Joshua Hamilton increased the lead in the 31st minute. But Trinidad rushed back and two minutes later Cummings scored and Douglas got the equalizer in the 40th minute. Trinidad played better football after the changeover but Jamaica had a strong defence in which Scott was an outstanding figure. This kept them at bay until five minutes before the end when left inside Haynes drove through to score Trinidad's winning goal. Team lineups: Trinidad—Figueroux, London, Murren, David, Labastide, Leon, Grell, Mervyn, Cummings, Haynes and Cave. Jamaica—Constantine, Dawkins, Scott, Stewart, Simmonds, Cameron, Hamilton, Kerr, Marshall, Welch and Mason. In last night's only match, Guatemala defeated the Dutch West Indies, 6-1 after leading 3-1 at half time. The Dutch West Indies, however, lodged a complaint which will be studied by the tournament's organising committee. |
