Canadians victors in warm-up contest

Canada's national soccer team, now preparing for the Confederation of the North, Central American and Caribbean zone football associations World Cup playoff in Honduras at the end of the month, beat Trinidad and Tobago 4-2 on Wednesday.

The Canadians, on a one-week warm-up stint in the Caribbean, thrilled the estimated 3,000 spectators who braved the inclement weather. They raced to a 3-0 lead at halftime, with two goals from Dale Mitchell of Portland Timbers and one from Branko Segota, who plays for New York Cosmos.

Trinidad and Tobago striker Bert Neptune, who was not expected to play because of a tooth infection, came on after the interval and scored for his side in the 60th minute.

The home side reduced the lead to 3-2 ten minutes later when Nevick Denoon scored on a penalty.

But Wes McLeod, the most valuable player in the North American Soccer League last year, sealed the game form the Canadians with a gem of a goal from about 20 yards out five minutes from the end.
