Haiti defeat Trinidad 6-1
HAITI WENT on a goal spree today when they beat hosts Trinidad 6-1 at the Arima Velodrome in the eighth match of the 1971 CONCACAF senior soccer championship finals.
The Haitians surged back from a 0-1 deficit to lead Trinidad 3-1 at half time. Wilfred Cave opened the scoring for Trinidad with a powerful drive from close up. Haiti equalized in the 38th minute through Bayonne while Sandor made it 2-1 five minutes later. Just on the whistle, Dominique booted one to add to the score. Haiti went further ahead soon after the resumption when Trinidad full back Raymond Moraldo converted in his own goal. From this point, Trinidad was a disorganized team and this opened the way for Haiti to score twice again through Bethelmy (50th minute) and Bayonne (80th minute). Nearing the end the Haitian carried the game to walking pace to a depressed Trinidad eleven before an estimated 10,000 spectators. Later tonight, Mexico and Cuba were due to meet under floodlights at Skinner Park, San Fernando, 30 miles from Port of Spain. |
