T&T settles for a 1-1 draw with Guatemala
Trinidad and Tobago settled for a draw at home versus Guatemala 1-1 in their second World Cup Qualifier yesterday. It was the first game played at Hasley Crawford stadium. Rudy Ramirez put Guatemala up in the 24th minute with a the help of some defensive disorder on the part of Ross Russell. However, Jerren Nixon scored in the 39th minute with a shot from 30 yards. Trinidad and Tobago out played the Guatemalans but when the strikers in Nixon and Yorke came in close to the goal they were smothered by the defence or goalkeepper. The game was not without incident. Evans Wise was thrown out of the game with two minute left in the game for a bad tackle. He was only on for five minutes. There was a bottle throwing incident involving some of the 20,000 fans and the Guatemalan bench. The game had to be stopped for a few minutes when bottles and cans rained down from the stands. It happened when the Guatemalan's complained to the referee about adding more time on to the game. The fans took offence to this and started the problems. Police were called and quelled the incident. FIFA is to decide what will happen to the TTFA. FIFA could either suspend T&T for one game, fine them or both. Trinidad and Tobago plays Guatemala on the 25th of October in Guatemala City. Before that they will face El Salvador in Port of Spain in a warm up match. |
