T&T succumb 2-1 to St. Kitts

Trinidad and Tobago's senior footballers allowed two second half goals as they succumbed to St Kitts/Nevis 2-1on the final day of action in the annual Sugarbowl Festival tournament at Warner Park on Sunday evening. The result left the host nation winners and T&T took home the silver medals. Despite the loss, coach Clayton Morris didn't hesitate to speak optimistically about the "Soca Warriors" which lacked the stars. "All the people here were asking so where are the stars from Trinidad and I was telling them this is our team, we are rebuilding and I think what we saw here was a really good sign for the future. I mean it wasn't good losing to St Kitts but we have to understand that almost all the players on our team are still young and now gaining experience. I think this only augers well for us," Morris told TTFF Media after the match. Joe Public striker Andre Toussaint, starting the game instead of Colin Samuel, gave T&T a 40th minute lead. Following some good work by fellow striker Kerry Noray on the left flank  who rubbed the defender of possession and made a cross which beat the advancing goalie, Toussaint collected to slot into an empty net from near the penalty spot. The Kittitians got their goals in the 50th and 70th minutes. Goalkeeper Daurance Williams entered the match moments before the second goal after Kelvin Jack pulled up with a leg strain. He was one of four second half changes. T&T created a fair amount of scoring chances but were unable to level the scores even as Silvio Spann and Noray went close on the final stretch. Noray hit his shot over bar from inside the penalty box and then Spann's overhead kick dropped over the bar onto the netting. Commenting on T&T's play, Morris said "The defence generally held its own but in attack is where  we had the problems. This is what happens when the team didn't have the chance to really  train as such and you tend to have problems moving the ball around, the chemistry isn't there. We created the chances but converting was the main problem. We played for 270 minutes and only scored one goal. But I must say that this is a special bunch. "Everyone got a chance to be capped and I asked these players to cherish the silver medal because while we did not finish as we would have liked, I think it's a stepping stone to where we want to go and the beginning of a promising journey for us," ended Morris.
