Venezuela beats Soca Warriors 3-0

Trinidad and Tobago senior footballers lost for the fourth time in six matches when they suffered a 3-0 defeat to neighbouring Venezuela at the Pueblo Nuevo Stadium, San Cristóbal, in front of 22,000 spectators on Thursday night.
Having failed in its bid to qualify for the Gold Cup finals, carded for July in the USA and Mexico through the three-nation play-offs, the local player,s led by Yugloslav-born coach Zoran Vranes, were hoping to redeem themselves with a good result.

But it was no to be and after holding out for the first 25th minutes debutant goalkeeper Peter Ramon-Fortune, who campaigns in the T&T Pro-League with Arima Fire, was beaten by forward Juan Arango in the 30th minute.

That goal seemed to unsettle the Trinidad and Tobago players and nine minutes later Arango again beat Ramon-Fortune to double T&T’s lead.

Nine minutes into the second-half, Vranes made his first move, introducing CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh striker, Kerry Noray, at the expense of Sean Julien.

Still trailing 2-0, Vranes made further substitutions in Conrad Smith (60th) and Anton Pierre (72nd) for mid-fielder Brent Rahim and Reynold Carrington who were not that effective.

But they too had little impact on the Venezuelans, who responded with a goal from Daniel Noriega, who replaced Gabriel Urdaneta in the 50th minute.

With the score now 3-0, Jason Scotland and Kerry Baptiste were also introduce by coach Varnes, but they too failed to conjure up a goal for T&T.

The defeat for T&T comes in the wake of defeats against Honduras (2-0); Martinique (3-2) and Cuba (3-1).
