Defence Force stayed a point clear of Morvant Caledonia AIA at the top of Division One of the Ascension Invitational Football Tournament with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory over Police FC in the second match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar, yesterday.
The win lifted the “Teteron Men” to 19 points from seven matches, one ahead of Caledonia AIA, who clobbered Matura ReUnited 5-1 and have a match in hand.
The lawmen broke the deadlock a minute into the second-half via Jameel Perry but Darius Ollivierra got Defence Force level with a deflected effort 11 minutes later.
Jameel Cooper then fired Defence Force ahead in the 76th and two minutes later Reon Moore sealed the victory.
Up at Matura Recreation Ground, Josiah Sylvester, Shem Clauzel, Radanfah Abu Bakr, Lukas Risto and Sedale Mc Lean were all on the scoresheet for Caledonia AIA before Brendon Figuera netted a late consolation for the hosts.
On Friday night at the Arima Municipal Stadium, FC Santa Rosa defeated Guaya United 3-1 with Osei Sandy (44th), John-Paul Rochford (49th) and Kevon Cornwall (89th pen) finding the net. For Guaya United, Akeil Paul scored in the 85th.
Last night, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers entertained Cunupia FC at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground, while today, Prison FC faces Queen’s Park Cricket Club at YTC Ground, Arouca and Club Sando entertain San Juan Jabloteh, both from 4 pm.
In Division Two meanwhile, Police FC ended the unbeaten run of joint-leaders Deportivo P.F with a 3-2 triumph in the opening match of the double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium.
Nicholas Roach and Donavon Derrick netted in the 13th and 29th minute respectively for Police to lead 2-0 at the half-time interval.
Seven minutes into the second-half Andrei Pacheco cut the lead in half for Deportivo, only for Mekhi Brooks to restore Police’s two-goal cushion in the 78th at 3-1.
With the seconds ticking away, Deportivo managed to get a second item but it was too little too late as Police held on for the win to climb to 15 points from seven matches, one behind Deportivo P.F and San Fernando Giants, with the latter set to host Bethel United at Mannie Ramjohn Stadium from 4 pm today, with a chance to grab sole possession of top spot.
In today’s other match, Petit Valley/Diego Martin United entertains Erin FC at St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings, from 4 pm.
