TERMINIX LA Horquetta Rangers remain five points ahead of Police after the 14th round of matches in the Ascension Invitational Football Tournament over the weekend.
Rangers defeated fifth-placed AC Port of Spain 4-2, in the second of two scheduled games on Friday, at the La Horquetta Recreation Ground, Arima.
Josiah Edwards put Rangers in front after three minutes, and ex-Trinidad and Tobago midfielder Ataulla Guerra doubled the lead in the 13th minute.
T&T playmaker Duane Muckette pulled one back, with a freekick, in the 39th minute, but Jamal Creighton restored Rangers’ two-goal lead with a header in the 63rd.
Creighton, the Rangers captain, notched his second goal in the 83rd to give his team a 4-1 advantage.
Nical Stephens netted a header in the 89th, but Rangers were not going to be denied a 12th win of the competition.
The earlier game on Friday, between Cunupia FC and Central Soccer World, was postponed due to an unfit outfield. Police, Defence Force and Deportivo Point Fortin all remained in second, third and fourth place respectively, after convincing Round 14 victories.
On Sunday, Police brushed aside Central FC 5-1 at the Police Barracks, St James.
Striker Juma Clarance broke the deadlock for the lawmen in the 34th, while stand-in captain Kemron Purcell (55th) and Rakim Cabie (63rd) scored headers, from set-pieces, to give Police a 3-0 cushion.
Veteran striker Jameel Perry found the back of the net in the 79th and 80th, but Renaldo Francois gave his team a consolation strike, in the 84th.
In a double-header at the Arima Velodrome on Saturday, Deportivo Point Fortin spanked Moruga FC 5-1 and Defence Force hammered Real West Fort United 5-0.
