West Texas A&M sophomore center back Khadisha Debesette has been named the Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week announced on Wednesday afternoon by the league's offices in Richardson, Texas. This is the first career honor for Debesette as the Lady Buffs have won a weekly LSC honor for the third straight week.
Debesette continues to lead the WT defense as the sophomore from Rousillac, Trindad and Tobago helped the Lady Buffs extend their season-high win streak to seven matches to move into a first place tie with Texas A&M-Commerce after wins over the Lions and Texas Woman's.
The sophomore was part of a backline that held the high octane Lions offense to six shots and one goal before scoring the game-winning goal for the Lady Buffs in the 94th minute on a header just inside the penalty box. Debesette anchored the defense that held Texas Woman's to three shots in a 2-0 victory on Sunday.
The Lady Buffs will face off against rival Eastern New Mexico tonight in Portales, New Mexico at 7 p.m. before hosting Midwestern State on Sunday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at The Pitch for Senior Day.
