The Liberty men’s soccer team placed four members on the 2005 VaSID all-state second team, honoring the best Division I men’s soccer players, announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) on Monday.

Flames Jonathan Burklo, Adrian Bumbut, Kyle Cupid and Osei Telesford were selected to the all-state second team.

Burklo (Tampa, Fla.) finished his career with the Flames by being named to the Big South all-conference second team as a defender. Burklo moved to defender in 2005 after playing forward his first three years with Liberty. In 16 games, the senior scored one goal and was second on the Flames with five assists.

Bumbut (Zalau, Romania) had his most successful season in 2005. The second team all-conference player was among the Big South leaders with eight goals and 21 points. The junior forward was one of two players to start all 16 games for the Flames

Cupid (Edinburgh, Trinidad) also was named to the 2005 Big South all-conference second team. The sophomore, who last year was named the conference’s Freshman of the Year, assisted on seven goals to rank among the Big South leaders in assists. The midfielder tallied 13 points on the season as he also scored three goals.

Telesford (San Juan, Trinidad) moved from defender to the midfield in 2005, giving the Liberty attack another option. The junior went on to score six goals and record five assists for 17 points in 15 games. Among the Big South leaders in several categories throughout the season, Telesford capped his season by being named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-South Atlantic Region First Team and the Big South’s all-conference first team for the second time in his career. In 2003, he was named as a defender.

Old Dominion senior forward Brian Cvilikas was selected as the State Player of the Year, while his Old Dominion coach Alan Dawson was named the State Coach of the Year.
