The Lions' men's soccer team defeated Chowan University 7-0 Sunday afternoon at the Ammons Family Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. MHC improved to 3-1 on the season while the Hawks fell to 0-5 on the year.

Ernest Sobers (Enterprise, Trinidad) started the scoring frenzy at the 26:22 mark on a through ball sent by Giovanni Malnati (Guayaquil, Ecuador). Rafael Berrios (Marietta, Ga.) added the second goal of the match at the 38:58 mark on a unassisted breakaway. The Lions took a 2-0 advantage into the locker room at the intermission.

Rury Caulfield (Glasgow, Scotland) scored off a corner kick in the 50th minute to put the Lions up 3-0. Brandon Tardioli (Ottawa, Canada) scored the first of his two goals on the day in the 53rd minute on a cross from David Robb (Bangor, Northern Ireland). Berrios put the Lions ahead 5-0 at the 75:40 mark scoring on a cross from Malnati. Xavi Belles (Guayaquil, Ecuador) hit a shot from about 20 yards out in the 79th minute to put MHC up 6-0. Tardioli ended the Lions scoring at the 87:30 mark scoring off a pass from Sean Nannery (Falls Church, Va.).

MHC out shot the Hawks, 40-3. Josh Cenci played the first 82:50 in goal for Chowan and made 12 saves. Ronnie Thompson played the final 7:10 and made one stop. Sean Merfeld (Alpharetta, Ga.) played 67:18 in the net for MHC and made two saves. Josiah Larson (Falls Church, Va.) and Phillip Dabney (Rockville, Md.) split the remaining time in goal for the Lions. MHC had eight corner kicks to the Hawks one.

MHC will host King College on Wednesday, September 10. The game is schedule to start at 7 p.m.
