Junior Stefan St. Louis scored the game-winner 13 minutes in to the game on a shot from six yards out, and senior goalkeeper Steve Clark made one save to earn his fourth shutout of the season, to lead the 28th-ranked Oakland University men’s soccer team (6-1-0) to a 3-0 victory over Western Michigan (1-5-1) on Friday afternoon. The Golden Grizzlies netted two goals in the second half to put the game away.
St. Louis’ goal was scored at the 13:04 minute mark off a pass from junior Sebastian Harris in the box for an OU 1-0 lead. That would be the only goal of the first half.
The Grizzlies scored quickly in the second tilt, almost three minutes in, as senior Ian Daniel scored off a corner pass from junior Stew Givens as Oakland led 2-0. Senior Piotr Nowak would tally the final goal off a free kick from 30-yards out with just 17 seconds remaining in the game as the Grizzlies blanked WMU for the second consecutive season.
The Golden Grizzlies outshot the Broncos 18-7 in the game. OU will take on Big Ten foe Michigan in Ann Arbor on Wednesday, Sept. 24, at Saline High School. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
