Sean de SilvaA two goal performance by sophomore Sean de Silva paced the College of Charleston’s men’s soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Davidson in Southern Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Patriot’s Point Soccer Stadium.

With the win, the Cougars improve to 7-4-0 on the year, 1-1-0 in the SoCon, while Davidson falls to 2-8-1, 1-1-0 in the conference.

“Coming into the game today, our team decided that enough was enough,” said junior forward Kareem Yearwood. “We had the right mind set coming out here from the start and it really benefited the way we played.”

In the first half, the Cougars had numerous chances to score throughout the period, but could not convert. It was then with a little over 50 seconds left that de Silva lined up a free kick and floated his first goal of the year into the net to give Charleston the 1-0 lead going into the half.

“I think there goalie kind of underestimated me on the play and put himself in a very poor position,” said de Silva. “All I did was drive the ball over their wall and into the goal.”

In the second half, the Cougars and de Silva picked up where they left off in the first, as the Port of Spain, Trinidad native scored his second goal of the contest 45 seconds into the period off a deflection from a Davidson defender.

Yearwood then put the match away in the 53rd minute when he registered his fifth goal of the year and third score in four games off a cross from Justin Fojo.

Freshman goalie Clark Hankins earned his third shutout in four starts, after making five saves in-between the pipes for the Cougars.

The College of Charleston will return to action on Oct. 11, when they travel to Elon to continue Southern Conference play. The match is set to start at 7 p.m.
