A pair of goals from redshirt senior Jeremy Delpino (Arouca, Trinidad/Virginia Intermont) lifted Radford to a 3-1 victory over Presbyterian in Big South men's soccer on Friday night at Patrick D. Cupp Memorial Stadium.
Delpino delivered his second game-winner in as many outings on a free kick opportunity in the 36th minute, when he drilled a bending shot from 25 yards out to the top right corner of the goal, giving the Highlanders a 2-0 advantage.
His second of the night came in the 55th minute, when a ball deep in Blue Hose (2-8-1, 0-3-0 Big South) territory was deflected out to Delpino, who buried a chance from eight yards out to make it 3-1, Radford.
Freshman Iyiola Awosika (London, England/Aylesbury Grammar) got the Highlanders on the board 13 minutes in, when junior Emmanuel Joseph (Port of Spain, Trinidad/East Central J.C.) cleared a Presbyterian corner kick down field and fed the ball to Awosika, who slipped a shot from just inside the penalty box past goalkeeper Andrew Brandt.
The goal was Awosika's team-leading fourth of the season.
Presbyterian got on the board just before halftime, when in the 42nd minute Juan Ocampo played a ball from the left of the goal to Davis Orders, who ripped an open shot just inside the right goalpost, cutting the Radford lead to 2-1.
Radford steps out of conference play this Tuesday (Oct. 7) to renew the New River Valley rivalry with 2007 College Cup participant Virginia Tech. Kickoff in Blacksburg is at 7 p.m.
