Stefan St. LouisIn a tightly contested defensive battle with Oakland outshooting Akron 6-5, the fourth-ranked Zips (8-1-2) scored a goal in each half to defeat the Golden Grizzlies (7-4) on Wednesday night at Lee Jackson Field in men's soccer action. Junior Stefan St. Louis scored the only goal for the Golden Grizzlies, his third of the season.

The Golden Grizzlies went down just one minute in to the game as the Zips' Steve Zakuani took a cross from Darlington Nagbe and drilled it to the back of the net as OU trailed early 1-0. St. Louis would tie the score in the 19th minute on a feed from senior Martin Sandell as the score was 1-1 after 45 minutes of play.

Akron would retake the lead in the 62nd minute as Ben Zemanski sent a free kick in to the box and Matt Tutich headed it in as Oakland went down by a score of 2-1. That would conclude the scoring in the game as the Zips kept the Grizzlies from getting the tying goal.

OU had six shots, two corner kicks, two shots on goal and 28 fouls, while Akron tallied five shots, four corner kicks, four shots on goal and 10 fouls.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to Summit League action on Saturday against Centenary College. Game time is set for 1 p.m. and can be followed via live stats on www.ougrizzlies.com.
