After an hour and a half delay to the start of the game postponed kickoff on Wednesday evening at Magic Jack Field, the game finally got going between the Palm Beach Atlantic University and Barry University men’s soccer teams. Unfortunately for the Sailfish, the Bucs would respond a bit better on this day and come away with two first-half goals that stood up for a 2-0 road victory.
Things remained tight between the two NCAA South Region rivals for the remainder of the half as the shot count was 8-7 in favor of the Fish. BU held a 3-1 halftime edge in corner kicks.
The second-half featured some scoring chances for both teams however neither team would find the back of the net as the score remained 2-0 in favor of the visiting Bucs.
BU goalkeeper Johnny Rodrigues earned the shutout in goal for the Buccaneers as he made three saves. PBA senior goalkeeper Joe Yurchak tallied two saves in 90 minutes of action.
PBA held the final advantage in shots attempted with a 14-10 lead while Barry finished ahead in corner kick opportunities with a 7-3 count. The Bucs were whistled for 11 fouls to that of eight for PBA while BU also was offsides nine times.
PBA will continue their home stand later this week as they welcome in Florida Memorial University for a 3 p.m. matchup at Magic Jack Field on Saturday, October 3rd.
