The LSU Shreveport men’s soccer team came away with a 5-0 win over the University of the Southwest Mustangs on Thursday afternoon.
Samuel Portales scored his second goal of the season at the 18th minute until Leonardo Reyes scored his third goal of the year on a rebound at the end of the first half to give the Pilots a 2-0 advantage at the break.
Shortly after the start of the second half, LSUS’ Larry Edwards sent a shot between the legs of the USW keeper for his second on the year and a 3-0 lead at the 49th minute of the competition. Sergio Perez made it 4-0 after lofting a free-kick over the keeper’s head for the score in the 60th minute.
The Pilots scored their final goal at the 83rd minute as it came off the foot of Reyes again to give him two goals on the day and four on the season.
Rogerio Celaya (45:00), Lance Quini (33:56) and Carson Bath (11:04) all split time in goal for the Pilots to preserve the shutout win.
“We played a great game today, especially the second half. There are still some things we need to work on but I am proud of the adjustments the guys made in the second half to put the game away,” said LSUS head coach Krasi Kolarov.
The next game for the Pilots will be at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas, at Texas Wesleyan University (2-11, 1-4 RRAC).
