Midfielders Danny Drago and Shastri Spencer and goalkeeper Troy Hernandez all earned spots on the NSCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Atlantic Region team for the 2010 season, the organization announced on Monday.
Drago, a first team selection, started 88 games in his career, leading the Warriors to a 64-19-5 record when he was in the starting lineup. He was previously named to the NSCAA All-Region team as a back in 2007 and 2008. He was also a three-time Daktronics All-Region selection, earning second team All-America honors in 2007 and 2008, and was also a three-time recipient of ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District recognition.
The redshirt senior had four goals and two assists this season while helping ESU (13-6-1) to the PSAC championship game for the 20th time in 29 seasons under head coach Jerry Sheska, where the Warriors tied Shippensburg 1-1 before falling in penalty kicks. Drago had 14 goals and seven assists in his career and was a member of PSAC championship teams in 2006 and 2007 and NCAA Tournament teams from 2006-08.
Spencer was named to the NSCAA All-Region second team and was a first team All-PSAC forward with his seven goals and seven assists, which were tied for the most in the conference. He had three goals and four assists against PSAC schools, including a goal and two assists in a 3-2 (2OT) win over Millersville in the regular season, and an assist on the game’s only goal in a 1-0 win vs. Millersville in the PSAC semifinals.
Hernandez was the third team goalkeeper after starting all 20 games in goal, leading the PSAC with 1841:52 minutes and ranking second in goals against average (0.78) and save percentage (.822). His eight solo shutouts were the most by an ESU goalkeeper since 2003 and included four shutouts against PSAC competition as the Warriors shared the regular season title with a 6-3 record. He posted three 1-0 shutouts in PSAC games and ESU was 3-0 in overtime games in the conference. Hernandez finished his career ranked second in school history with a 0.87 goals against average.
ESU has had at least one representative on the NSCAA All-Region in every season since 1985 and has a total of 80 selections in that span.
