Chike Sullivan was today named the RMAC Pre-Season Player of the Year. Along with Sullivan, Tesho Akindele, Manville Strand and Baski Baker all earned Pre-Season All-RMAC recognition.
Sullivan, a senior midfielder from San Juan, Trinidad & Tobago (St. George’s College), was a First Team All-American selection during the 2010 season as he led the RMAC with 11 assists.
Sullivan added 11 goals (5th in the RMAC) and finished with 33 total points (4th in the RMAC). A unanimous First Team All-RMAC selection, Sullivan also earned First Team All-Region accolades.
Assistant Sports Information Director Katie Simons told the SWO; "Sullivan has spent the past two summers training with the Colorado Rapids and there are reports in Colorado that they are very interested in him."
"Colorado School of Mines played the Rapids reserve team last spring and defeated them 4-1." "Chike played very well in that game." "I hope to see him with the Trinidad and Tobago U-23 soon getting ready for the Olympics, ended Simons."
The player is currently nursing a bit of an injury right now and has been limited in practice but is expected to return soon.
Meanwhile, the Colorado School of Mines men’s soccer team was selected by the coaches to win the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) in the 2011 RMAC Men’s Soccer Pre-Season Coaches Poll released today by the RMAC.
The 2010 squad claimed the RMAC regular-season title posting a record of 12-1-1 in conference play. Mines went on to host the 2010 RMAC Tournament earning the tournament title in penalty kicks, 7-6, against Fort Lewis.
Mines went 17-2-2 overall establishing a new single-season program record for victories and were ranked #1 in the NSCAA Poll for 4 consecutive weeks.
The Orediggers made their third appearance in the NCAA Tournament in program history and hosted their first-ever NCAA Tournament game.
CSM went on to defeat Regis University (5-1) earning the program’s first NCAA Tournament win before falling in the second round to Midwestern State (3-1).
