The SUNY Canton men’s soccer team continued their defensive dominance as they posted yet another shutout, this time beating the University of Maine at Presque Isle 4-0 Friday night in Canton.

The Roos win was their fourth straight and sixth shutout of the season.  They’re now 5-1-1 in their last seven outings and have only allowed five goals during that stretch.

"We were much improved from Wednesday," said head coach Mark Howlett.  "We looked very sharp going forward and caused them problems all night.  It's great to earn another clean sheet and we look for more of the same tomorrow."

Shane Powell (Yonkers, N.Y.) connected on two of the Roos tallies on Friday as the freshman continued his recent torrid scoring pace.  Powell now has six goals in the last four games.

Powell scored once in the 21st minute to give the Roos a 1-0 lead at halftime, and then scored his second goal just 2:32 into the second half.  Austin Johnston (Auburn, N.Y.) made it 3-0 in the 57th minute and Keelon Joseph (Malabar, Arima, Trinidad) completed the scoring with 40 seconds left in the game netting his second goal in the last two games.

The Roos held the Owls to just three shots on goal and Sankung Sillah (Bronx, N.Y.) stopped all of them for his fourth shutout this fall.

The Roos and Owls face each other again on Saturday at 3 p.m.
