The men’s soccer team suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss in double overtime to SUNY-Maritime in a non-conference match played on Columbus Day evening, Monday, October 10, in Throggs Neck, New York.

The Bearcats trailed early in the contest as Ryan Nugent scored for Maritime in the 13th minute for the 1-0 advantage.

Baruch tied the match late in the 75th minute with Akil George scoring on a header off a corner kick assist from Andreas Hansson. The goal was Akil’s sixth of the season to tie him with Vincent Cruz for the team lead.

The two teams continued to battle and went into double overtime as Jason Tursi scored unassisted off a corner kick to end the match in the third minute of the second overtime.

The visiting Bearcats out-shot Maritime by an 18-15 margin.

With the result, the Bearcats fall to 5-7-1 overall, while Maritime from the Skyline Conference improve to 8-4-2.

The Bearcats will regroup and seek to end a three-match losing streak as they will return to action on Wednesday, October 12, with a CUNYAC home match against the College of Staten Island. Kick off at the Met Oval in Maspeth, New York is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
