Ryan Osborne (Wakefield, England) accounted for a goal and an assist as the University of Charleston men's soccer team claimed its place at the top of the WVIAC standings in a 4-1 win at Alderson-Broaddus, Wednesday evening.
Charleston (9-6, 6-1) hit the scoreboard first in the 24th minute when Osborne played a perfect ball from Craig Cantor (Cincinnati, OH) for the only score in the contests first half.
2009 WVIAC Player of the Year Dion Peters (Trincity, Trinidad) put highlights together in the second half as he netted two of Charleston's three goals in the half. Peters struck just four minutes into the second stanza on a pass from Osborne to expand the UC advantage 2-0.
Alderson-Broaddus (3-10-1, 1-5-1) put a mark on the scoreboard in the 59th minute, but it would be too little too late as Cantor struck just minutes later to again increase the lead to two goals.
Peters concluded the scoring with his second of the day off a pass from leading scorer Rob Vincent (Liverpool, England) securing the 4-1 score, which would hold up through the end of the contest.
A-B was outshot just 18-15 and kept Golden Eagle goalkeeper Sean Teepen (Cincinnati, OH) on his toes forcing six saves before booking their single goal.
The win vaults UC to the top of the WVIAC standings with two conference games remaining. The Golden Eagles will look to continue their title defense on the road at Shepherd on Oct. 22 for a 3:00 pm matchup.
