Log on to thewarriornation.com on Friday February 29th 2008 at 2 PM (EST) for a live WebChat with one of Trinidad and Tobago’s emerging strikers, Darryl Roberts. One of six Soca Warriors plying their trade on top flight teams in Europe, the 24 year old Sparta Rotterdam striker is quickly being recognized by the T&T football fraternity as a key player in the Soca Warriors push to regain the glory achieved at the 2006 World Cup. During his educational pursuits, Darryl has played for Fatima College, Liberty University and USL PDL club, Carolina Dynamo. He has received numerous honors and accolades for his accomplishments on the aforementioned teams and also spurred interest from Dutch club Sparta Rotterdam and Toronto FC (MLS). In February 2007 Darryl was drafted by Toronto FC, but chose to accept an offer from Sparta Rotterdam to play in the Dutch Eredivisie. On his debut for Sparta in April 2007 against SC Heerenveen, Darryl scored his first goal within two minutes of stepping onto the field. Since then he has made a crucial impact on the Club’s top flight survival by scoring 7 goals in 13 starting appearances and 11 as a substitute.
Darryl made his debut for T&T on June 6th 2004 in a friendly against Northern Ireland, while he was still a student at Liberty University. That debut made him the first Liberty University student-athlete ever to be named to a full national team. He has 13 international caps and 1 goal for the Red, White and Black. His goal was scored against Martinique in the 2007 Digicel Caribbean Cup.
