The Trinidad and Tobago Football Associations Grassroots Festival moves into Wallerfield on Friday following a series  of lively one-day clinics at different locations over the past month.

Headed by technical director Muhammad Isa, the clinics which are aimed at providing opportunities for local youngsters between the ages of 6-11  to enjoy the game and learn the basics of football. The latest clinic was staged at the Petrotrin Ground in Fyzabad on Thursday where close to 50 kids from Fyzabad and environs were treated to three hours of fun-filled football related activities as the TTFA-trained grassroots coaches put the boys and girls through different drills and small sided games at the venue. Earlier this week, another session also took place in the Northern Football Association at Dibe, Long Circular and on Wednesday it will be Wallerfield’s turn to experience the fun.

“So far we have touched on different locations over the past month and it has really been an enjoyable and learning experience for the kids in the communities. Our intention is to take the game to the areas and afford the younger ones the opportunity to come out and enjoy the game and learn more about it while they are out there in the field,” Isa said.  “And it’s well received and turns out to be enjoyable for them especially as we are now in the holiday period.”

“We are not only creating an avenue for healthy fun but the coaches are also taking note of some of the talented ones as we now have the under 13 elite programme taking place and some of these same youngsters from the grassroots festival may have what it takes to be entered into the elite programme and developed for possible future nations youth team selection,” Isa added.

Sessions took place at the Toco Secondary Schools ground and Moruga earlier this month while previous clinics have been held in Chaguanas, La Brea, Moruga, Blanchisseuse and Palo Seco.The Festival moves to Tobago next week.
