The NLCB-sponsored National Elite Youth Football Programme which features action among the various Regional Associations- Northern FA, Central FA, Southern FA, Eastern FA, Tobago FA and the Eastern Counties Football Union (ECFU), will continue today with matches at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva from 9am.

Last weekend the under-13 boys from the sister isle of Tobago were at the wrong end of a 9-0 thrashing from the Eastern FA at the Plymouth Recreation Ground in Tobago.

Terrel Gibson, Ja-Shawn Thomas, Daylon Riley and Nathaniel James each scored two goal apiece, while Clint Francis got the other in the victory. After the game Thomas was adjudged the Player of the Game.

Despite the win however, the Southern FA leads the table after two round of matches on a better goal-difference to the Northern FA. Both have maximum six points after two games, but the southerners have a goal difference of seven to the Northern FA’s five.

The boys from north Trinidad were also on winner’s row last weekend, defeating the Eastern Counties 4-1, courtesy a double strike by Jahiem Marshall in the 30th and 57th minute, which led to a superb comeback.

The northern fa were stung early in the match when Isreal Joseph opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the ECFU.

The northerners equalised three minutes later when Josiah Wilson found the back of the net in the 16th. The Marshall show came after Meegus Jack scored in the 19th minute to gave the north team a 2-1 cushion. Marshall was later named Player of the Match.

In another game, the southerners got a lone strike from Molik Khan in the 54th minute to claim a 1-0 victory over Central FA. In that match Cunnielus Hannaway got the nod for the player of the game award.

Today’s opening game will see the EFA taking on CFA from 9am and leaders SFA clashing with the ECFU at 10:30am. In the other encounter the NFA will take on TFA from 12 noon.

The best players from these play-offs will be chosen and put into a pool to be used for the selection of national youth teams in the future for T&T.
