Clint Marcelle, launched Barnsley's biggest party in all their 110 years of football history.
The West Indian wizard hit the golden goal that sealed the Super Reds' place in the big time.
Danny Wilson's boys were clinging on to a narrow one-goal lead courtesy of Wilkinson's first-half strike.
But then supersub Marcelle hit the jackpot.
The little man from Trinidad surged into the box, outwitted two defenders and rolled his shot into the net to clinch victory.
No wonder it was carnival time all round the Oakwell ground.
The Barnsley players set off on a well-deserved lap of honour afterwards. And it's 100 per cent certain that there will be bumper hangovers this morning.
Because there is likely to be a night of non-stop celebrations by the Barnsley players and their ecstatic fans.
But spare a thought for Chris Kamara's Bradford City battlers, who ow face a desperate struggle to avoid a return ticket to the Second Division.
At least they have the consolation of home games against Charlton and QPR as they tackle their survival bid.
And if they show the same kind of spirit that had Barnsley running scared at times, they can still do it.
Yet nothing is ever going to take away Barnsley's own moment of glory.
And but for the agility of Davison they would have had their promotion all wrapped up long before Marcelle's golden moment came.
De Zeeuw and Ridell both went close before Wilko put the Reds in front and it was his old pal Hendrie who set up the golden goal.
His cross from the left caught the City defence at sixes and sevens.
And there was Wilkinson to head the ball beyond Davison.
As Barnsley threatened to run riot Davison saved superbly from Wilkinson in the 23rd minute.
He then repeated his heroics from Hendrie five minutes later, before Eaden saw a rasping drive whack the post.
It was the same in the second half as Redfearn shot over the top and Eaden had his own shot on goal blocked. But City were getting up steam and Sundgot was just inches wide with his cross shot.
Then he saw a close-range effort rebound from the post with Watson beaten for once.
That was enough to frighten the living daylights out of the Barnsley fans.
And when Wilkinson forced yet another fine save out of Davison the nerves were stretched ever tighter.
Then along came Marcelle, a late replacement for Bullock, to fire the goal that takes Barnsley out of Division One and into dreamland.
