Shaka Hislop is ready to turn his back on Newcastle and quit St James' Park on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The unhappy keeper is disillusioned with his lack of first-team opportunities. Manager Kenny Dalglish chose Pavel Srnicek ahead of Hislop against Blackburn on Saturday after losing Shay Given to international commitments.

That was the last straw for the giant keeper, who now seems sure to leave for nothing - two years after his pounds 1.5m move from Reading.

"No-one has offered him a new contract yet," said his agent Jonathan Barnett. "And if they did, it would have to be a very good one."
