Russell Latapy has been voted player of the month for August in the Scottish Premier League - at the age of 38.

The Falkirk midfielder, who was with Trinidad and Tobago at the World Cup finals in the summer, says that he is relishing the twilight of his career.

Latapy said: "I had a good summer and I've come back fitter and stronger.

"As long as I'm contributing in a positive manner, then I would love to keep playing. What I don't want to do is let down the club and the fans."

Latapy has been rewarded for what league sponsor the Bank of Scotland described as "a fantastic month".

The former Porto, Rangers and Hibernian midfielder was voted man of the match in three out of the five games.

"Leading the line from midfield, Russell's craft brought the team back into the game against Dundee United and his equaliser no doubt inspired them on to winning all three points at Tannadice," said a statement.

He also scored in a 2-1 defeat by Kilmarnock, whose manager, Jim Jefferies, was named manager of the month on Thursday.
