ARBROATH manager Paul Sheerin has confirmed the Lichties are chasing striker Colin Samuel but added they may have to be patient if they want to capture his signature.
The former Dundee United and St Johnstone forward is currently without a club and speculation had been linking him with a move to Gayfield to join his former Perth Saints’ team-mate Sheerin.
The boss told HeraldSport he would love to have Samuel, who also has 24 caps for his native Trinidad and Tobago, at the club but is currently playing a waiting game.
He explained: “I have been speaking to a couple of players and I’m just waiting to hear back.
“There has been speculation linking us with Collin Samuel which is actually true and I would love him at the club.
“He wants full-time football, which is obviously understandable so we might have to be a bit more patient with that one.
“Up front is somewhere we need to strengthen as I don’t think there is enough pressure on Swankie and Doris for places and big Elf (Jordan Elfverson) has been struggling with injuries since he came here.”
Since Sunday’s cup defeat to Rangers at Gayfield, it has been a case of returning to normal for the Lichties and fully focusing on closing Cowdenbeath’s lead at the top of the Second Division.
And that starts tomorrow (Saturday) with an away trip to East Fife and Mr Sheerin is demanding a return to winning ways.
He said: “Sunday’s cup match is all done and dusted now and we need to move on.
“We need to address the concern that we haven’t picked up a winning result in five games and we need to change that as soon as possible because we don’t want it to become a habit.
“It could be difficult to bounce back after a game like Sunday’s but come tomorrow we will be ready to go.”
Mr Sheerin only has injury doubts with ‘keeper Michael White and Jordan Elfverson but says there could be changes to the team.
He added: “We have to freshen things up a bit and hopefully by doing that we will get a response from the players.
“For the fringe players coming in they have to take an opportunity they might not get very often.
“Last time we played East Fife they had a lot of injuries on the day so they will be probably be stronger than when we played them last.
“But for us it is just vital that we keep winning games as there is still a lot of football to be played.”
