Jason Scotland is just two starts away from earning a new deal at the Blues – and he says he’s doing all he can to stay in Town.

Scotland did his chances no harm in the come from behind 2-2 draw at Hull on Saturday, putting in a tireless second-half performance and linking up well with the likes of Michael Chopra and substitute Lee Martin.

He made a surprise return to the starting 11, in place of Martin, after his equaliser in Tuesday night’s draw at Southampton.

And the veteran striker insists he is doing everything he can to remain in Suffolk.

He now needs just two more league starts to trigger an automatic new one-year deal at the club on the same money.

“I have not had any more talks about my future and everyone knows that if I start two more games I get an automatic new deal,” said the former Swansea and Wigan striker.

“My future is in the hands of the club but I am just trying to enjoy it and whenever I get the chance, take it and stay in the team.”

Scotland also urged Saturday’s two-goal hero Grant Leadbitter, to keep up his good work in the midfielder’s quest to stay at Town.

“Grant is out of contract in the summer and has to earn the right to be awarded a new deal,” said Scotland.

“But he put in a good performance at Hull on Saturday and he has staked a claim to the manager that he deserves a new contract.

“If he keeps performing like that then hopefully something will happen for him.”

Leadbitter has been criticised by some Town fans, but Scotland added: “Everyone gets stick when they are not doing well, it is part of the game but there is competition for places and everyone is doing well at the moment and they are trying to take their chance.

“It is tough for each and every one of us, because no one wants to be out of the team.”

Scotland’s comments came as team-mate Carlos Edwards is believed to be on the verge of inking a new deal at Portman Road this week.
