The Columbus Crew announced today that it has signed midfielder Kevan George, a second-round selection (No. 29 overall) in the 2012 MLS SuperDraft. Per club and league policy, no further terms of the deal were disclosed.

The 22-year-old George is a 6-2 native of Trinidad & Tobago whose family moved to Atlanta when he was 12. In four seasons at the University of Central Florida, he totaled six goals and 16 assists in 73 games, and was named to the All-Conference USA First Team three times (2008, 2010, 2011).

“George is a very tall, physical central midfielder,” Crew head coach Robert Warzycha said on draft day. “He’s a good passer who always wants the ball and can cover a lot of ground. He can be a very good link between the midfielders and the forwards.”

George was recently called into Trinidad & Tobago’s Under-23 National Team camp in preparation for CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying, which it opens on March 23 at the Home Depot Center against Mexico.
