Marvin Andrews is edging ever closer to a sensational top team return this Sunday against Celtic.

We revealed yesterday that the T&T international returned to training on Monday and now after four days of hard graft it has been announced that he has suffered no ill effects.

There are still two more days of training left before the big clash but should Andrews continue to impress Alex McLeish, there is every chance he could be lining up at Ibrox on Sunday.

Andrews was sensational in the last Old Firm encounter, which Gers won 2-0 at Parkhead, and the Light Blues would love to have him back in time for this weekend's title decider.

The manager said: "Marvin has trained with us this week for the first time in a while and the only issue is perhaps a fitness one.

"We all know about his well-documented problem, but he shown no ill effects in training so at this moment we have to say it's looking reasonably positive."

Andrews has had to put up with a lot of unfair stick this season, following his move to Ibrox last summer, but the 29-year-old has answered those critics brilliantly with a string of top performances.

He has been sorely missed since injuring his knee against Dundee on March 13 but the latest good news on his condition means he could still have a vital part to play in the title run in.

Alex added: "Marvin has brought something to the team we felt we lacked last year and that was to mop up high balls coming into the box, as well posing a threat at attacking set pieces.

"Obviously he has done that superbly well this season and has improved as a player on the ground as well.

"He is a good defender one to one and rarely lets his opponents get the better of him in those situations.

"But like every human being, Marvin will make the odd mistake and at Rangers that gets highlighted. By and large he has had a tremendous season and should be applauded for that."
