NOTTS County want to sign Andre Boucaud, boss Keith Curle has revealed to the Post.

Boucaud, 27, has impressed Curle during a pre-season trial with the Magpies and the club is in talks with Luton Town about signing the midfielder on loan until January.

He only joined the Hatters from York City for £25,000 in January and has a contract at Kenilworth Road until next summer.

"He's a good player," said Curle. "He's a lot like Gavin Mahon in the way he plays in midfield because he's good on the ball and has very good distribution.

"We've already got a lot of midfielders, but there is room for one more.

"You can win a lot of games if you win the battle in there and it can be a long season if you don't.

"We want to take control of games in the middle of the park and then go and play to cause teams problems."

It was two midfielders who scored in a 3-2 win in a friendly against Scarborough on Saturday – Joss Labadie and Alan Judge.

New-signing Labadie scored twice and Judge netted with a trademark bullet strike.

"We need goals from midfield," added Curle. "We don't want to be a team that relies on strikers to score.

"Joss has got a great desire to get forward and he's got the ability when he gets in the box to have a composed finish.

"It was nice to score three goals. There was a good tempo to the game.

"Everything is starting to fall into place. We're starting to score goals, which is giving a little bit of belief to the forward players."

Striker Lee Hughes missed the game in Bridlington.

"He rang up on Saturday morning and said his wife was sick, which meant there was nobody else to look after their baby," said Curle.
