Micky Adams believes Stern John is a 20-goal a season man, but fears he won't be able to assemble the Sky Blues line-up to enable the striker to hit the goalscoring landmark.
Although the Trinidad and Tobago front man may be in his side next season, the Sky Blues boss knows the club's finances mean he will have to make the best of what he can get in the summer.
"He is a 20-goal a season man without a shadow of a doubt," he said of the player who has scored crucial goals in successive games to take his tally to 10 from 32 appearances.
"There are other aspects of Stern's game that I would like to see improve but there is no doubt that he is the best finisher at the club, given the chances.
"I don't think Stern is a player who is affected by confidence. He plays the game a certain way."
But as to whether Adams can build a decent team around John, that remains to be seen.
"I will never get the team I want at this club and I won't even get it anywhere near," he said. "The finances at this club dictate what sort of team I put out next season. I have to try to get the best out of a group of players. Whether it is the team I want or the team I can possibly get, only time will tell.
"We would like to improve the squad next season, of course we would, but I think it is on record that there is no money for signings. Full stop. So people have got to under-stand that.
"I want to put a Micky Adams's pre-season inside everyone and hope that we can improve the squad in certain areas but, that is no guarantee of success because I haven't got a magic wand to wave. All I will say is they will be fit, they will be organised and everyone will know their jobs and we will have to take whatever comes our way."
