Former Rochester Rhino Craig Demmin works with players that are attending his camp in Victor.Former Rochester Raging Rhinos captain Craig Demmin is hosting a soccer camp for ages 7 to 15 at Dryer Road Park in Victor this week.

Demmin spent 12 years as a professional soccer player and was named Rochester’s most valuable player four times.

The Trinidad and Tobago native resides in Chili and has been running soccer camps in the area for five years.

“I enjoy working with kids, creating a platform where kids could have fun learning the game,” Demmin said.

Demmin used to serve as an assistant coach for the Monroe Community College women’s soccer team and the Rochester Lancers, but is committed to working with youth in the area. He also started the Craig Demmin Elite Soccer Academy.

Soccer is popular in the greater Rochester area with professional teams like the Rhinos, Lancers and Western New York Flash around. However, soccer isn’t as popular in the United States as it is in other parts of the world.

“It needs to be more of a grassroots sport, it needs to be more available to kids at all different levels,” Demmin said.
