Adams signs one-year deal with Hungary's champion club.Trinidad and Tobago defender Akeem Adams today signed a one-year deal with Hungarian club Ferencvarosi.

Adams, age 22, signed the deal with the option for an extension after spending one week  on trial at Hungary’s most successful club. (They have captured the Hungarian League 28 times and the Hungarian Cup 20 times, also winning the Europa League in 1965.)

“It’s a most satisfying feeling to have secured my first overseas professional contract,” Adams told TTFA Media.

“I spent a week here and the coaches were impressed. I worked really hard and now I know the real deal begins. My previous club before here was Central FC but I was released earlier this year so it was on my mind for sometime and I know I needed to start back playing at a decent level because I haven’t been on a national team for some time,” Adams said.

“Now that I’ve signed with Ferencvarosi I know I need to settle in and continue to improve my game. I want to return to the national team at some point in the future,” added Adams who hails from Salazar Trace in Point Fortin.

“I need to thank my agent Humphry Nijman and Dion Sosa for their efforts in getting me this deal and of course my past coaches, my loved ones and Cheryl Abrams who was the team manager in 2009 for her support as well as Reynold Carrington and Zoran Vranes for their support.”

On his seven days at the club, Adams commented: “Most things in Europe are different to home so I have to adapt but I’ve had a fair amount of travels with the national youth teams also so Europe is not a strange place to me and I’ve trained and played in these conditions before. I’m just looking to settle in and help the club to some success this season.”

Adams came through the ranks at the TTFA, playing for the National Under 15 team and also the National Under 17 and Under 20 teams that qualified for the 2007 FIFA Under 17 World and 2009 FIFA Under 20 World Cup. He made his senior international debut at age 16 in a friendly international 1-0 victory over El Salvador in 2008. Adams has nine senior international appearances for T&T.
