Port Vale boss Martin Foyle is set for talks with Chris Birchall about the winger's international commitments.
Foyle is concerned too many international fixtures could affect Birchall's performances in a Vale shirt, although he is happy for the 21-year-old to continue playing for Trinidad and Tobago in high-profile games such as World Cup qualifiers. Birchall made his full international debut for the Caribbean republic in their 2-0 home win over Panama last Saturday and also played in Wednesday's 2-0 defeat in Mexico.
He is due back in England today, but could soon be in demand for his country again after impressing coach Leo Beenhakker.
Trinidad and Tobago's planned Unity Cup game at West Ham tomorrow has been cancelled, but they play in the 12-team Gold Cup in the United States in July.
Trinidad are due to play Honduras, Panama and Colombia on July 6, 9 and 11 respectively and could play a further three games if they go all the way to the final.
Foyle fears Birchall will be jaded by the time the Valiants kick off their season on August 6.
He said: "Chris has done well for them, although he is absolutely shattered. When he comes back we will sit down and discuss what is best for him.
"He still has a lot to learn in his game, but he has done well playing 28 games in his first year. After that he probably needed a rest, so this has probably done him no favours, but I am delighted for Chris."
Meanwhile, Vale are hosting the England under-18s' friendly against Norway tonight (7pm). Admission is £5 for adults and £1 for juniors and senior citizens for the Railway Paddock after selling our in Lorne Street and Hamil Road.
