AX are proud to announce that two Jacksonville Combine players, free-scoring Jonathan Glenn and midfielder Dominic Adams, have signed their first ever professional contracts with Icelandic Premier League side IB Vestmannaeyjar.
IBV manager Siggi Eyjolfsson worked with Director Paul Taylor at Walsall in England, and had no hesitation in trusting Taylor and his staff to watch players for him at the AX winter combines and subsequently send the best on trial with his squad. Glenn and Adams caught the eye of AX Staff at their Jacksonville Combine and were promptly sent to the Icelandic outfit.
Jonathan Glenn moved from his native Trinidad and Tobago to be recruited to Saint Leo University, where he showcased his goalscoring talents in the PDL with the Panama City Pirates and Vermont Voltage. He graduated college as the fifth all-time leading scorer with an irrepressible 41 goals in 57 games, and then moved onto NPSL’s Jacksonville United where he was named in the all-conference team of the year for the 2013 campaign.
Dominic Adams is a fellow Trinibagonian native, and gained a scholarship to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (USAO) where he was was tipped as one of the finest players from the islands for years. From Oklahoma he took in stints at Quinnipiac University, the Professional Development League’s Vermont Voltage and Colorado Rapids, but at the age of 25 he had still not played professionally. After an impressive showing at the Jacksonville combine, however, AX agency staff offered him a breakthrough by getting him a trial at IBV. It is of no surprise to AX that these two talented players have both earned their first professional deals after impressing on trial.
Glen and Adams will join one of the most recognizable teams in Icelandic soccer and a great place to start their careers. Manchester United manager David Moyes began his playing career with the club; Hermann Hriedarsson, who captained clubs in the English Premier League as well as the Icelandic national team, started and finished his playing days there; former English international goalkeeper David James also finished his final games of professional soccer there.
Following the great success of the last Jacksonville combine, we will hold another Combine from March 30-31-April 1st, 2014, more details can be found at the following link: 2014 Pro Soccer Combines.
