Khaleem Hyland in action against Anzhi Makhachkala

Trinidadian midfielder Khaleem Hyland has joined Cardiff City on a week's trial.

The 25-year-old is no longer wanted by Belgian club Genk, who are managed by former Scotland, Rangers and Aston Villa boss Alex McLeish.

Genk are currently on tour in Turkey though Hyland did not join the team on the trip after being told by McLeish to find a new club.

And his new destination could well be the Welsh capital with Bluebirds boss Russell Slade running the rule over Hyland this week. Should he impress Slade sufficiently, the Cardiff boss could be tempted to take the plunge with Hyland who is a powerful midfield player.

He has international experience with Trinidad and Tobago and has also featured in the Champions League with Genk. He played the full 90 minutes for the Belgian side as they were humbled 5-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in October 2011.

While Hyland is still on trial for now, any potential signing would add to the number of midfielders already available to Slade.

The Cardiff boss is determined to stamp his mark on the Bluebirds squad and will be hoping Hyland is more of a success than Islam Feruz, who failed to impress sufficiently when on trial from Chelsea last week.
