New striker Jason Scotland this morning expressed his delight at the prospect of his first day training with his new teammates in Perth.

The Trinidad and Tobago striker has had an agonising two months not knowing if or where he could continue the football career he initially pursued in this country with Dundee United who he joined when he came from his home country two years ago.

A much-publicised failure to get a work permit renewal with the Tannadice side this summer was followed by St Johnstone’s attempt to gain the same piece of documentation which was successful on Tuesday and Jason signed a two year deal with Saints just minutes before the evening meeting with St Mirren which he watched from the stand.

The players had a day off yesterday but have returned this morning and Jason is delighted to be involved. He told the Saints Official Website, “It’s exciting to be involved. Waking up this morning and remembering that I was going to be training and playing football with new colleagues made me very happy.”

“I consider myself to be reasonably fit having played three Gold Cup matches for Trinidad and Tobago in Miami in July and I appreciated the chance to train with Dundee United a few weeks ago but I withdrew from that arrangement out of courtesy to them when I heard of Owen Coyle’s interest in signing me.

“I want to be playing every week and scoring goals and I’m delighted to be getting the chance to do it with St Johnstone and Owen Coyle. Of course I want to be playing in the SPL and hopefully I’ll get the chance to do that with St Johnstone.”
