Senior team defenders Mekeil Williams and Aubrey David have been enjoying relatively solid seasons for Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas respectively.

A big factor for them has been their progress made through the ranks at the national youth teams, playing at two Fifa youth World Cups and then graduating out of the T&T Pro League into the National Senior Team. David has 30 international caps and Williams has played 13 times for the Soca Warriors.

David thinks that regular appearance for club has certainly helped him.

“It’s two different clubs in terms of style of play and surroundings between Saprissa and Dallas but it’s professional football and the level is always very high. As a professional player you have to live that way with regards to everything you do on and off the field. And once you’re in a set up like that then it helps you coming into the national team for game like this one against Guatemala,” David said. “This is what I live for and hopefully we can all make that progress and show it out there when we represent the country.”

Meanwhile, Williams is hoping to continue improving his work rate and understanding of the game.

“My performances in the MLS has certainly helped me personally in terms of my level of play but also in terms of what the life of a professional player is. I’m enjoying every bit of it and the work level is something you develop as time goes on. But being in the MLS and training daily and playing often help with this whole process. And like all other players out here we always strive to keep learning and getting.
