Dundee boss Alan Kernaghan has backed injured keeper Kelvin Jack to battle his way back to fitness sooner than later.

Jack injured his knee while playing for Trinidad and Tobago last Wednesday in a World Cup qualifier against Mexico.

The injury forced the big keeper to come off at half-time as his country secured the win that guaranteed them a play-off place against Bahrain as they bid to reach next summer’s finals in Germany.

It also ruled Jack out of Dundee’s game against Stranraer last Saturday, paving the way for Derek Soutar to make his first start of the season.

The 29-year-old has, so far, been unable to train this week, but his manager is confident Jack will be pulling out all the stops to get himself fit.

“Kelvin still has a bit of swelling around the knee and hasn’t been able to do any work this week,” said Alan.

“But he’ll be busting a gut to get back, especially with a World Cup play-off coming up next month.”

If Jack recovers in time, he’ll be included in boss Leo Beenhakker’s Trinidad squad for the double-header against Bahrain, in Trinidad on November 12 and the return leg in the Gulf state four days later.
