Former Trinidad and Tobago football team captain Kenwyne Jones has stressed that he will not be coming out of retirement, having announced his decision to quit football – both at the international and club levels – on November 20.

News broke on Sunday that the 33-year-old striker, as well as goalkeeper Alexander Tambakis and a natural fourth-round pick in the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft were sent from Atlanta United in a swap deal with Sporting Kansas City who, in turn, acquired midfielder Kevin Oliveira, defender Tyler Pasher and Sporting’s natural second-round pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

But Jones, in a Twitter post on Sunday night, insisted, “categorically saying I’m retired.”

His unrelated namesake, TT defender/midfielder Joevin Jones, also took to social media yesterday to thank his teammates and fans at Seattle Sounders for their support towards him, during his two-year-long stay at the MLS club.

The 26-year-old will move to German Bundesliga II team Darmstadt as a free agent.

According to his Instagram post, “Just want to say a massive thank you to everyone at Sounders. Firstly I want to thank God for taking me thus far in my life, He continues to bless me tremendously.

“To my coaches, thank you for always giving me the opportunity to go out there and put my hard training to work. To my teammates, I love you guys and it was a pleasure playing alongside you. Special thanks to my family and fans, for always believing in me, thank you for your love, time and mainly your positive energy, which was the most thoughtful gift of all,” Joevin Jones ended.
