Trinidad and Tobago National Team duo Ataulla Guerra and Neveal Hackshaw are both out of danger after being forced to move out of town earlier this week following the threat of Hurricane Florence in the Charleston area where they are based as professional players with Charleston Battery.
The Charleston Battery’s match against the Charlotte Independence was rescheduled for Wednesday, September 19, originally scheduled to be played this Saturday, September 15, but was postponed due to Hurricane Florence.
“We are both safe. We had to evacuate and I am in Atlanta now by a friend. We are like three hours away by driving. I’m now looking to go and do a workout. We’re going back home (Charleston) tomorrow and we’ll play next Wednesday,” Guerra told TTFA Media on Friday.
Hurricane Florence, now a Category 1 storm with winds of 90 mph, continued to spin toward the Carolinas on Thursday as rain winds from the outer bands were battering the North Carolina coast.
As of 11 p.m. EST Thursday, the center of Florence was about 60 miles east-southeast of Wilmington, North Carolina, the National Hurricane Center said. It was moving to the northwest at 6 mph.
Florence is a huge hurricane, the hurricane center said, and its hurricane-force winds extend about 80 miles from the storm’s center. The diameter of Florence’s tropical-storm-force winds is almost 400 miles.
