Stern John will be allowed to return to Coventry City a few days early if he is not needed for Derby County's trip to Cardiff.

John's three-month loan spell expires after Saturday's Championship clash at Ninian Park but the out-of-favour striker is not expected to figure, having failed to make the substitutes' bench in the past seven games.

"I have yet to decide on the squad for Cardiff and that is why Stern is still training with us," said manager Phil Brown.

"If he is not in the party, he can return to Coventry. If he is travelling to Cardiff, he will be with us until after Saturday's game."

Coventry boss Micky Adams is waiting to put John in his squad for Monday night's clash against Queens Park Rangers at Loftus Road.

Adams would like the Trinidad and Tobago international back a few days early so he can take part in the build up.

"Ideally we would like Stern back but because we have a game on Monday, I don't see any real problems," he said.

"I have not seen Stern for three months and so I don't know what shape he is in.

"I will look at him in training on Sunday and decide, but I think he will be in the squad for QPR."
