Malcolm Michael Granado kicks for FC Schweinfurt 05. Now he hopes to be discovered by his homeland Trinidad's national team.
Because of this he keeps on peering over at the sidelines. It could just be that Trinidad's national coach, Leo Beenhakker, becomes aware of him and sends a scout to check out nationals in Europe. The Schweinfurt player has already received a first contact e-mail from Trinidad. Beenhakker already has star players on board, like Dwight Yorke, who has played with Manchester United. But, Granado has heard that he is still looking for good players who may not have an agent for a highly remunerated contract.
The 27 year old works as a kindergarten teacher the the US Army in Würzburg und Kitzingen. At the same time he trains for the reserve team of FC Schweinfurt 05 and caps in the 9th Division (Kreisklasse) now and again. Although his father is American, his mother is from Tobago, which qualifies him to play for Trinidad.
More commitment needed
Granado came to Germany four years ago after his college graduation and after stints in Mainz and Eschborn to Schweinfurt. After two months of training with FC Schweinfurt 05 the coach Rüdiger Mauder decided to place him on the second team: too little engagement, too much holding back on the field determined the coach. Still Malcolm Michael Granado hopes to take part in the World Cup with Trinidad and Tobago. By some reports he has already trained with some of the national players.
Granado crosses his fingers
Whether he becomes a part of the team or not, Granado backs Trinidad's new trainer 100%: When Beenhakker first arrived in Trinidad last year the team was at the bottom of the qualifications. Under the new order, however, the Caribbean kickers have made it. For this reason the Schweinfurt representative is also confident: "I am not saying that Trinidad and Tobago will win the World Cup, but we have a good chance to make it to the second round."
