CLAYTON Ince shrugged aside the wonder save that ensured Walsall maintained their perfect home start to the season with a 2-0 win over Macclesfield.

The Saddlers leapt to third in League Two after goals by Hector Sam and Scott Dann saw off the struggling Silkmen.

But they were pushed all the way. And it appeared Macclesfield had the point they deserved when, at 1-0, David Morley's 83rd-minute thunderbolt seared towards the top corner.

"I was up off the bench," admitted visiting manager Brian Horton. "I thought it was in."

But Ince soared to his right to turn the ball for a corner.

Minutes later Dann doubled the lead and Walsall's superb launch to their home campaign - played five, won five, scored 12, conceded nil - was still intact. Just doing my job, insisted the modest Ince.

"When called upon, I'll be there all the time because the guys need support," said the 34-year-old.

"They have been doing really well in front of me so that makes it easier for me to focus on my job - to keep the ball out of the net."

Ince admitted that bottom-of-the-table Macclesfield gave Walsall a real test, although not as stern as they will face from Premiership side Bolton in the Carling Cup tomorrow.

"All teams low in the table are fighting to get out of trouble," he said.
