STERN JOHN faces an uncertain future at Coventry City after it has emerged that the club were prepared to cash in on the striker who is in his last year of his contract with the Sky Blues.

The Trinidad and Tobago international knows that he has probably one last big contract to come before easing down towards hanging up his boots.

And he admits he is disappointed that City have not yet approached him with an offer to stay beyond next summer when he will be a free agent.

The World Cup player has already attracted interest from two other clubs, believed to be Championship rivals, but Coventry slapped a £500,000 fee on his head which put them off until the New Year when they know they can secure his services for nothing.

Leon McKenzie's arrival at the club also adds to the uncertain situation, but John insists it is a welcome pressure.

"We have four strikers all wanting to play now so it is a good situation for the manager but I am not really worried about what strikers he brings in because he knows what I can do and I know what I can do," said the 29-year-old who has two goals from his first eight games.

"I am full of confidence now and I just have to pick up where I left off last season and start banging in a few more goals to make sure I keep my shirt.

"I feel fit and strong and I am really enjoying my football at the moment.

"I am playing up with Kylo who is a big lad who has done well and is a real presence which allows me to drop in and get the ball to feet and stuff, and Leon came on and did well at Ipswich so I think we have got a pretty strong team.

"My contract is up in the summer but no-one has really spoken to me about it yet so I just have to get on with it and play my football.

"I guess the manager will talk to me about a contract when he is ready but no one has talked to me about my situation.

"As a player you want to get something sorted out before the summer but I am still contracted until then and I need to get my head down and get on with it.

"I would like to sign a new deal, as every player would, because you have your family and you need to stay focused on the game rather than worrying about what's going to happen if you get injured or about your next contract.

"It is a difficult situation and this will probably be my last big contract of my career at my age.

"I am going to be 30 next month so hopefully I can get something sorted in the next couple of months but, either way, I am still going to continue to work hard for Coventry and give the club my best."
