GILLINGHAM head into their opening match of the new season against Huddersfield on Saturday with goalkeeper problems continuing to hamper preparations.

Kelvin Jack's injury problems are still a concern. The Trinidad keeper has yet to appear for the Gills since signing in the summer and manager Ronnie Jepson has rated him 50-50 for the League 1 match at Priestfield.

Jack missed the opening two matches of the World Cup with a calf strain and so far has only taken part in practice matches at the club's training ground.

Gillingham's goalkeeping position has been cause for concern all summer, since the departure of Jason Brown to Blackburn and Paul Crichton to Cambridge United, which left the club without a recognised stopper.

Despite the keeper crisis, Jepson is still eagerly anticipating the season's opener.

He said: "It's going to be a tough game but we know what we're up against and if the players have no fear and stick together, then that should take us to where we want to be."

As well as a doubt over Jack, Jepson is also sweating on the fitness of striker Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu, who has been struggling since picking up a dead leg in the pre-season match against Queens Park Rangers.
