Gills defender Ian Cox is relishing the chance to renew acquaintances with his former club AFC Bournemouth.

Cox spent four seasons with the Cherries between 1996 and 2000, making 173 appearances after arriving on a free transfer from Crystal Palace, scoring 17 goals: "When the fixtures come out it's the first game I look for, there's a lot of good people down there and I made a lot of good friends, and for me it really got my career going, the four years down at Bournemouth.

"We both need the points for different reasons, for us, we need to get our season back on track after three disappointing results. We're back at home and we're looking to really push on and basically stop the rot. The last three games have been a little bit disappointing, but now we have to look to get back on track with a good result on Saturday against Bournemouth," said Cox.

The Gills curerently sit in 15th spot on the Coca-Cola League One table, but Cox remains confident his side can be a real force this season: "Home form is good, but it's a bit similar to last season really where we relied too much on our home form I think. We need to start getting something away from home, to take the pressure off us at home. We're back here at Priestfield on Saturday and we know that the three points is a must for us if we want to keep in touch with the frontrunners, and keep away from the ones down the bottom of the league.

"I think we've got a realistic chance, but until we start to address our away form, we're going to be completely relying on our home form, and I think you need to have a balance really, but I'm forever the optimist, and my belief is that if you believe you can move mountains then you can. Nothing's impossible, but we're under no illusions that we've still got a lot of hard work left to do, starting on Saturday," he said.
